{"id":2162,"date":"2016-06-22T10:31:38","date_gmt":"2016-06-22T08:31:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asta-giessen.de\/?page_id=2162"},"modified":"2025-12-09T01:00:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T00:00:37","slug":"wohnen-und-soziales","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.asta-giessen.de\/en\/referate\/wohnen-und-soziales\/","title":{"rendered":"Housing and Social Affairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-sourcepos=\"3:1-3:394\">We in the Department for <span class=\"citation-0 citation-end-0\">Housing and Social Affairs in Giessen support you, students, in coping with the increasingly acute financial and housing-related challenges.<\/span> We advocate for <strong>fair and sustainable housing conditions<\/strong> in Giessen and demand increased efforts from the federal government, the state, the city, and the Studierendenwerk to provide affordable housing for students.<span class=\"button-container hide-from-message-actions ng-star-inserted\"> \u00a0 <button class=\"mat-mdc-tooltip-trigger button image-fade-on hide-from-message-actions\" aria-label=\"Weitere Informationen\" aria-controls=\"sources\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><\/button><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"container ng-tns-c2648792141-73 hide\">\n<div class=\"carousel-container ng-tns-c2648792141-73\">\n<div class=\"carousel-content ng-tns-c2648792141-73\">\n<div class=\"sources-carousel-source ng-tns-c2648792141-73 hide ng-star-inserted\" data-test-id=\"sources-carousel-source\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:366\">Our current projects include <strong>expanding the emergency shelters<\/strong> or the so-called &#8220;temporary accommodations&#8221; of the Studierendenwerk Gie\u00dfen to alleviate the currently catastrophic housing situation of the students &#8211; especially shortly before the start of the semester. We are also working to create <strong>more transparency in the allocation of housing<\/strong> in student dormitories.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:392\">Further projects are also being planned to offer more housing to students. In addition, we work closely with the Studierendenwerk to improve the situation of students in the dormitories, for example through educational measures on energy costs and waste disposal, which on the one hand protects the environment and the climate and on the other hand curbs the ever-increasing additional costs.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:116\"><em>Unfortunately, we as AStA are not a housing exchange and therefore cannot offer or arrange any apartments ourselves.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:186\">Furthermore, we are committed to realistic KFW funding without a debt trap, and for a fair semester contribution. We <strong>oppose hidden tuition fees<\/strong> and <strong>advocate for cheaper cafeteria prices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:137\"><strong>We are available as the main adress for students with financial difficulties or housing problems and offer support with any problems that arise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"15:1-15:419\">If you are still looking for furniture or other items for the initial furnishing of your new apartment, it is best to first take a look at classifieds or bargain platforms such as Mydealz. There you can often find things for a fraction of the price in retail or online stores.
