The Autonomous Departments represent certain groups of people from the student body, such as foreign students or queer students, and take care of their specific concerns. They are elected by the respective groups in their own plenary sessions and later confirmed in the student parliament (StuPa). This also distinguishes them somewhat from the core departments of the AStA.
