Why a semester ticket at all?
With the semester ticket, you have the opportunity to be mobile by public transport throughout Hessen and from winter semester 2024/2025 throughout Germany at low cost! There are no longer any limits to our mobility. The bus and train will also get us home safely for any weekend or evening activities. But even for our journey to university, we don’t have to search the already overcrowded car park for a space and we also protect our wallet and the environment. Firstly, it is far cheaper to travel with the semester ticket than by car and secondly, in times of climate change, it is advisable to do our bit to prevent further deterioration in this respect. All in all, it can be said that the semester ticket is very popular, which can be seen, for example, in the votes on the semester ticket at general assemblies.
Validity
The semester ticket is always valid from 1 April to 30 September and from 1 October to 31 March of each year. All city and regional buses, underground trains, trams and local trains operated by Deutsche Bahn can be used free of charge with the student ID card within the area of validity (from winter semester 24/25 throughout Germany). Unfortunately, the ticket is not valid for long-distance trains (IC / ICE / EC).
Ticket
Until now, the student ID card has been used as a ticket, but from the winter semester 2024/2025 the new Deutschlandticket will be available as an online ticket and can be presented as a digital QR code and also loaded into the wallet of the smartphone so that it is also available offline. It is important that the QR code is not shown as a screenshot or printed out, as this is not valid.
